A runway is a defined rectangular area on a land airport prepared for the landing and takeoff of aircraft.
A runway of at least 6,000 ft (1,800 m) in length is usually adequate for aircraft weights below approximately 200,000 lb (91,000 kg). At sea level, 10,000 ft (3,000 m) can be considered an adequate length to land virtually any aircraft. The width can vary from 75 to 100 meters.
